Interim Technical Claims Specialist (Marine Leisure)

This role offers a six-month contract opportunity to oversee a marine leisure claims portfolio for a specialist insurer. Working 35 hours per week on a hybrid basis with travel to multiple UK offices, the successful candidate will manage complex and major losses across hull, machinery, and liability classes while delivering portfolio analysis to support strategic decision-making. Responsibilities include directing investigations with external specialists, maintaining accurate reserves, and identifying fraud and recovery opportunities. The position also requires oversight of delegated authority arrangements, MGA partnerships, and audit delivery to ensure strong governance and compliance. The ideal candidate will hold relevant professional qualifications such as DIP CII, LMA Certificate, or MTA Certificate in claims, with substantial experience in marine insurance including complex losses and protection and indemnity claims. Strong technical knowledge of maritime law, vessel operations, and claims principles is essential, alongside experience in delegated authority oversight and regulatory compliance. Excellent analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills are required, with the ability to mentor junior handlers and act as a technical leader within the marine class. Experience in product development or both company market and Lloyd's environments would be advantageous.
