Underwriting Manager Property

This leadership role supports a specialist insurer's UK property team, working alongside senior management to drive strategic objectives and business expansion for London market accounts. The successful candidate will underwrite property risks by evaluating proposals and assessing exposure, while building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients. They will supervise and develop underwriters through structured training, manage departmental budgets and workload, and identify cross-sell opportunities across distribution channels. The role involves collaborating with internal teams including claims, risk consulting, and compliance, plus representing the team on internal committees. The ideal candidate brings extensive knowledge of property underwriting across multiple lines, with a background in retail property including lead, follow, captive, and multinational accounts. Team management experience with a track record of employee engagement is essential. Strong communication and negotiation skills are required, alongside proficiency with analytics and pricing tools. An ACII qualification or equivalent is preferred. The successful applicant will demonstrate capability in developing underwriting strategy, complex problem-solving, and managing workload effectively while maintaining compliance with regulatory frameworks.
